Who I am

I’m Jim Donlon, the owner of My Office Expert, based in Virginia.  I have helped many people create new information systems that made their organizations more efficient, insightful, and even innovative.  It is incredibly rewarding to create with them something new that has such impact.  In those experiences I have found again and again that the greatest value comes from making use of IT systems already at hand to automate the mundane, to integrate separate tasks into a process that fits perfectly, or to analyze and visualize data in revealing ways. And because I have a passion for artificial intelligence and other problem-solving technologies, I have delighted in adding into these simple projects the advanced technology that turns ordinary office automation into business intelligence.

About this blog

This blog is all about guiding you, the business owner, to help make sense of your office automation opportunities and find ways that you can take advantage of new capabilities now.  The articles in this blog will follow several topical themes:

I will offer a series of bite-sized tips and tricks to de-mystify your office, showing you how to take advantage of the powerful but perhaps undiscovered capabilities in your office.

Another series will evaluate the rapidly-developing space of AI for business, where we will discover the new technologies, methods, and potential uses of this new

I may even tell some stories about the humble beginnings of emerging office intelligence technologies.  Exploring how these things started will help us better evaluate if it is ready for prime-time today.

And I am sure we will think of others as we head off on this journey together.

My commitment to you

I will choose topics and engage in them in such a way that you, the business owner, will be able to understand, evaluate, and perhaps put into action new ideas to make your business work smarter.  That means I will keep the “techspeak” to an absolute minimum.  Where I do refer to technologies or to concepts that require definition, I will explain briefly and/or link to relevant content that I have personally chosen for you. And of course, I will keep it fun!
